Caring for silk

Silk is a super fabric. Made from natural proteins, it is a strong, durable yet an extremely soft material.

Did you know…

  • Silk can absorb nearly a third of its weight in water before it feels wet

  • It is hypoallergenic so is good for people with sensitive skin

  • The fabric doesn’t create static so it will not cling or crease easily

  • Silk is a breathable material

  • Its natural properties repel mould and mildew

So, what does that mean? It means you’re wearing a pretty amazing shirt. Well done you!

Our silk fabric is sourced and manufactured from an ethical silk factory in Shanghai. Our artisans craft amazing silk that has great qualities. We love that our shirts are 100% silk, can be hand washed and are crease resistant.

However, you still need to take extra care to make sure it remains in good condition.

Here are our top tips on how to care for your silk shirt:

        1. Hand wash the shirt in cold water. If you’re time sensitive, you can use a delicates bag and put it through the washing machine on a gentle cycle. Make sure you wash your shirt separately or with similar colours.

        2. Use a wool & delicate washing liquid. Other liquids and powders are too harsh for the fabric and will wear it down. We like Softly “Delicates & Woollens” but there are many good options available.

        3. Who has time to iron?! Once washed, hang your shirt on a coat hanger to dry. The key is to make sure you hang your shirt soon after washing to minimise creases.

        4. Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the fabric

If you have any further questions about looking after your silk shirt, just let us know! We understand this caring process won't be the same for all silk shirts but we hope the above information will help.

Cost Per Wear. The age-old argument

Put simply, Cost per Wear is the price you pay for an item of clothing, divided by the number of times you wear it, plus any costs of cleaning. In recent years, the notion of Cost Per Wear or CPW ...
